The Reality of Marriage

Before I got married,

I didn’t know the reality

That the easiest thing to grow

Would be apart.

Apart a little at a time

Until it makes a hole.

Before I got married,

I didn’t know the reality

That the hardest thing to grow

Would be a part.

A part a little at a time

Until it makes a whole.

Now that I am married,

I have learned this reality

But don’t always act as though

I want hardships, not a free ride.

I want to bridge and not divide

The hearts we pledged to tomorrow.

Now that I am married,

I am learning the reality:

The process has just begun.

A little at a time, part by part,

Bridge by bridge, heart to heart.

“Two shall, by grace, become one.”
