Amazon MGM Studios, Wonder Project, and Kingdom Story Company bring audiences the remarkable true story, Sarah’s Oil, in theaters nationwide this Friday, November 7.
The biographical drama, inspired by Tonya Bolden’s 2014 book, Searching for Sarah Rector: The Richest Black Girl in America, tells the remarkable true story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s. She believes there is oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted and whose faith is proven right. As greedy oil sharks close in, Sarah turns to her family, friends, and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming among the nation’s first female African American millionaires — at eleven years old.
Sarah’s Oil is a testament to faith that endures hardship, to a family that stands firm, and to a legacy that cannot be buried. The film brings Sarah’s story to life to light with authenticity, reverence, and inspiration.
Rated PG for thematic content, some violence, language including racial slurs, a suggestive reference, and brief smoking
