What does God’s faithfulness mean, exactly?

In short, it means His steadfast trustworthiness. I have always thought that our job was to be faithful to God, not for God to be faithful to us. However, that is not the case. It is much more difficult for us to be faithful than it is for God. He is truly amazing, which includes being loyal to us. God has made many promises, and He has faithfully kept them.

Deuteronomy 7:9 states, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations” (ESV throughout).

God is clearly faithful to us, even though we aren’t perfect and continuously sin. No matter the circumstance, we know God is there waiting for us with arms stretched wide to come to Him.

My family and I have well experienced God’s faithfulness. Growing up, I had a pretty good childhood and always longed to know God more. However, my father and mother had a rocky relationship, which made things difficult for my brother and me. My dad also was a drug addict and alcoholic. For many years, I thought there was no hope to cling to. My family and I had become angry with life and with God especially. I always would ask, “How could God allow this to happen? What did we do to deserve this?” Life seemed to go steadily downhill, and I never thought things would get better.

Then, in 2018, my dad joined a rehabilitation program. Though it was unexpected, I could clearly recognize God’s faithfulness. My dad was there for ten months, and during that time he became fully sober and rededicated himself to God.

In addition, my mom, brother, and I came to Spring Vale Christian School, and I have become so much closer to the Lord there. God had allowed everything to happen in perfect timing, and He remained constant and faithful through it all. Our family has grown and become stronger in many different ways since then, and I wouldn’t want to change anything.

First Corinthians 10:13 states, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

My story is unique to me, but I hope you can somehow personally relate this to God’s faithfulness in your life. No matter what we face, God is always there through it all.
