I’ve been getting angry and frustrated at my husband so quickly, and over little, stupid things. Then I feel horrible. I feel as though our love and friendship are slowly going away, though it isn’t. Can you give me advice from the Bible that will teach me in this situation?

Thanks for being vulnerable enough to “confess your faults” in this way. My advice is that you confess this to your husband also. Find an appropriate time to share your struggle with him, and ask for his patience and understanding as you work through to better days. Then share your struggle with one other person, preferably an older, married woman at your church who will hold you accountable and pray for you (James 5:16).

Read Ephesians 4, 5, and 6 each day (or each week) for the next several days/weeks. If you tire of those chapters, move to John 14—17. Read slowly and prayerfully. Write Ephesians 4:31, 32 on a small card, and tape it to your mirror or refrigerator where you will read it often. Memorize these marvelous verses, and make them your motto. Pray that God will keep you reminded of the blessings you have in your marriage. Celebrate with your husband! Assure him of how important he is to you.

Read the articles in this magazine and others that offer counsel for a happy, lasting marriage. I wish for you and your husband much love, joy, and peace. You will find victory over this attack of selfishness as you yield yourself more fully into the loving, forgiving hands of the Lord.

— Elder Calvin Burrell

Have a question you’d like answered?
